Dr. Etsuko Ogasawara (Japan)
Etsuko Ogasawara is the founder and Executive Director of
the JWS (Japanese Association for Women in Sport). She holds
a Ph.D. in Sport Management from Ohio State University.
She has published many research papers on swimming and job
satisfaction in coaching and has made numerous presentations
on her research at conferences across Japan and internationally.
Dr. Ogasawara was the Chair of the Steering
Committee for the 2001 First Asian Conference on Women and
Sport and she was elected as the Chair of the Interim Asian
Working Group on Women and Sport (AWG) at the conference.
She has been a member of the IWG since 2000.
Before beginning her doctoral studies, she was an assistant
professor at the National Institute of Fitness and Sport
in Kanoya, Japan, and a head coach of the swim team. At
the Seoul Asian Games and the Seoul Olympic Games, she joined
the Japanese coaching team.
